So our little BrynleeAnn was not due until Feb the 16th which is Monday, so to have her here already caught me by surprise lol. So here is the rest of the story...
This entire pregnancy Kels and I (well mainly Kelsie) have been going to Dr. Lunt (he also delivered Jordan.) So picture this every trip to the doctor was an adventure unto itself...you check in at the receptionist desk at 10:15am wait forever in the waiting room, you pick up countless magazines and tap your feet for 30-45 minutes. Then the door opens and your heart skips a beat " will they call me in?" and the nurse delivers the bad news...Still more time in the holding pen...So you pick up your things and move to the other side of the 'holding pen' so you can read the other magazines since you are bored of the other twenty you just finished. And finally the nurse calls you back to see the actual doctor for like 5 minutes to listen to the heartbeat, check vitals of mommy, then gets the plastic tape measure out to see how big the baby is measuring..blah blah blah you get the idea. haha and you can't forget about the crinkly parchment paper you have to lay on.
Anyway so like 5 weeks ago Kels calls me on the phone after she and Jordan had gone to the park and told me the story of how she met this midwife there at the park with her "play group" (more on that another time) and how she is kind of interested in a home birth...So she convinced me to go and meet with the midwife at her office/home...I was already very interested, because I believe in the power of the woman's body to give birth and deal with the pain and complications that come with giving birth...I told Kels "I believe in you and support you either way, at the hospital or at home. I know that you are strong either way and I know that I couldn't do what you are doing..." etc, etc. So through the whole process of us learning about how 'natural birth' works and its benefits vs our experience at the hospital (like last time) we decided to have a natural birth.
Now on to the good part of the story...On Wednesday night Feb the 11th Kels was dropping hints that something was going on. The baby was moving all over the place...nothing too out of the ordinary--baby moves all the time--but this time a little differently she explained. So we went to bed like normal at like 11pm. Kels wakes me up just before midnight and says "I'm having pretty bad contractions we probably need to get ready." I replied "Kels its probably nothing or you are in the first stages, why don't you go and get in the bath and try to relax"...(I was half asleep lol!) So I went back to sleep. Around 12:30am Kels wakes me up again "Mike we need to call Braden to come over here to be with Jordan just to be safe, since my mom is out of town" and again, I am like "its too early everything is going to be ok..." LOL I laugh now, Kels was having serious labor and contractions like 4 minutes apart for like 40-45 seconds at a time and doing Amazing! She didn't really understand because last time she had an epideral. So we would hold each other and breathe through them together. She needed to use the restroom but couldn't and was bleeding just a tinge. When I saw that I got my act together and started running around gathering our things. I got both of my cameras, my laptop, mine and her cell phone chargers, extra pillows, the basket of goodies for the birth, etc etc...I was planning for 18 hours at the hospital and Kels is like "Mike we NEED to go!" So I threw all of our stuff in the car and we headed out... Kels could barely sit in the car. We got to the bottom of the street and shes like "Pull over I need to get out" So I pulled off and she got out... I said honey get back in we will be there in no time. It was like 1:14 am so I put the pedal to the metal and was driving down River Road at 80+MPH. Kelsie says "I think I need to push" I said "Don't even think about it NO YOU DONT! We are almost there! just hold on" Luckily the lights were almost all green minus 2 which I drove straight through!!!! I turned left on riverside drive doing about 45mph (which is really fast in an small SUV) I slammed the gas pedal back to MY speed limit 80mph. We are now on Bluff street driving through the RED left turn arrow onto Hilton Drive and then take an immediate left on Hilton. (Driving over Blackridge drive would be way too bumpy!) Hilton drive turns into Tonaquint drive and I turned left at that stoplight (also red) on S. Dixie Dr. back onto Tonaquint then Right on Fairway Hills Drive and finally right on Par Three Circle to the Midwife's home. We arrived there at 1:22am. We got into the birthing office they put Kels in the shower. She had another major contraction and she got out, I held her and walked with her to lay her down on the sterile place mat. When Kels layed down, the baby was already crowning (No wonder she thought she needed to push) about 3 contractions / pushes and our beautiful baby BrynleeAnn was born at 1:26am on Thursday February 12th. PHEEEW! We made it just in time with 4 mins to spare. It was so beautiful to be with Kelsie so intimately and help her through the contractions at home, breathing away the pain and in her moments of doubt when she thought she couldn't do it. We breathed together as a team and worked the pain away... The intense rush of the drive and then finally the delivery of our little Angel. Anyway it was amazing and I couldn't have asked for a better outcome. Our Little BrynleeAnn is as quiet as a cucumber (so far) and cute as a button. She was 21 inches long 6lbs and 14 ounces. LOL what an experience. My amazing wife and I spent the night there on a sofa bed LOL (it wasnt that bad) we had breakfast, baby and mom were just fine and we were home by lunch. (Beats the 18 hours in a hospital) So here is just a short video of our less than 1 day experience. Little BrynleeAnn is between 5 mins to 8 hours old in all the pictures and video segments. So without further ado i am going to make my cute wifey pancakes for breakfast for the first time in a really long time.
